Amusement Parks in Orlando Part 3 - Waterparks
Orlando offers a great selection of water parks, with more being added every year. In this post, we’ll take a look at the Disney waterparks, Sea World’s new Aquatica park, and the classic Wet ‘N Wild and Watermania.
The most popular waterparks in the area are Disney’s Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. Both are elaborately themed with plenty of great attractions, but the two parks are distinctly different. Blizzard Beach is based on the premise that a freak snowfall covered the park. When it melted, it left behind plenty of water to play in. This park is known for its intricate slides, with the park’s Summit Plummet holding the title of tallest slide in Florida. We dare you to try it! Also at Blizzard Beach, you’ll find an elaborate kid’s play area, with a separate area for babies, as well as plenty of rides for the whole family.
Typhoon Lagoon on the other hand, is themed to resemble what a water park would look like after a huge typhoon passed through the area. It’s got a shipwreck, Robinson Crusoe feel. The park is known for it’s gigantic wave pool, a snorkeling area called Shark Reef where guests can swim with sharks, and plenty of water slides of every shape and size.
In 2008, SeaWorld added its own water park to the mix. Called “Aquatica” its got all of the charm and calm of SeaWorld, with plenty of watery thrills thrown in. There are over a dozen water slides, a wave pool and lazy river, and lots of animals (what else would you expect from Sea World?). Check this park out before the secret get’s out.
For water fun on a small scale, check out Wet N’ Wild or WaterMania, both in the Inernational Drive area. Wet N’ Wild is the larger of the two, and features a wave pool and plenty of slides. WaterMania has a very down home feel, and is best for small children or those who are tired of the bigger parks and need a break.
I’m willing to bet the next waterpark in Orlando will be built by Universal. They’re the only major player in the area with no waterpark to complement their other attractions.
